Coloured in an attractive moss green tone with natural accents, these CTAS 70’s Hi Renew Shoes are a pioneering footwear style from Converse and represent a step forward in their efforts towards more sustainable manufacture. The uppers are made from 100% recycled polyester made from post consumer plastic bottles and the circular Converse All Star emblems have been embroidered onto the inner panels for a signature finish. Matching this, the eyelets and ventilation holes have also been embroidered, removing the need for metal components and the fastening system uses recycled polyester laces. Along the back of the heel a light coloured fabric strip matches the tongue which provides a background for the project’s tagline of ‘Life’s Too Short To Waste’, presented using moss green embroidery curved around the top. The rubber outsole brings a durable finish to the design, which has been intended for everyday wear, and a traditional brown tread pattern is included for a reliable level of grip.
Approximately eleven post consumer plastic bottles are used for each pair of these CTAS 70’s Hi Renew Shoes, although from the feel of the uppers you wouldn’t know they were any different from previous models. Launched in the summer of 2019, the Converse Renew project has begun with a range of signature models crafted with recycled polyester components and future plans will see Renew Denim designs made from vintage jeans alongside waste scraps, from Converse’s factory floor, used to create unique footwear styles.
